‘Matlock’s’ Skye P. Marshall on Working With Kathy Bates, Kiehl’s and Her Love for LED Masks

Second on the call sheet to Kathy Bates in the CBS series Matlock, Skye P. Marshall is having a fantastic fall. Playing ‘Olympia,’ a key rainmaker at New York’s most prestigious law firm who has a thirst for justice, it’s clear Marshall is over-the-moon excited about the reboot’s success, which has already been picked up for season two. Besides giving us some insider intel on Bates’s behind-the-scenes dance moves, Marshall shares she’s a bit of a skin-care expert, letting us into the details of her fine-tuned routine.

Matlock has already been renewed for a second season. What are you most excited to share with audiences as the show continues?

I’m most excited to share the evolving storylines and character developments that make Matlock so engaging. As we dive deeper into the mysteries and the personal lives of our characters, there are so many twists and turns ahead. Plus, the audience can expect even more of that clever dialogue and surprising humor that fans have loved. It’s going to be an incredible ride!

What was it like working with Kathy Bates?

Working with Kathy is like having a front-row seat to an exclusive comedy special while learning from a master class! It’s a mix of awe, curiosity and hilarity—like when she randomly dances on set, winks at me after a great take or screams over my shoulder at my phone, “Hi Handsome,” while I’m on FaceTime with my husband during our 10th hour of filming. Every day is a reminder that even legends have their quirky moments while seamlessly creating magic on camera, and it makes me love her even more! Never a dull moment.

Can you share any glam secrets for getting into character?

While filming Matlock, morning and night, I love using the Kiehl’s Calendula Deep Cleansing Foaming Face Wash ($38), then the Herbal-Extract Toner and the Serum Infused Water Cream ($58) that creates a thick moisture barrier on my skin before makeup application. I also apply The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2% ($5) serum daily, to prevent breakouts. The Mixsoon Collagen Hydrogel Eye Patches ($28) are a game-changer!

And at night, I melt away the makeup with the amazing Farmacy Green Clean Makeup Remover ($24). What are some of your all-time favorite beauty products?

Call me old school, but I’m still a Fashion Fair gal! I grew up watching my mom run to their cosmetic counter at Marshall Fields in Chicago to grab the latest lip colors! She wouldn’t go to the mailbox without a good lip on. And today, I wear the same. My all-time favorite color is Chocolate Raspberry ($29)! Also, my husband gifted me a Dyson Hair Dryer ($429) and with my thick tresses, it works wonders saving me so much time! KeraCare Thermal Heat Protector ($14) is the best defense against heat damage for my hair for days I want to go with a straight look.

When you aren’t filming, what do you do to unwind?

When I’m not filming Matlock in LA, I reside in Brooklyn, NY, where I love nothing more than dining at a cute mom-and-pop restaurant and attending a live performance. There’s not a Broadway or Off-Broadway musical or play that I won’t sit through! My best way to properly hibernate is to bury myself under my wonderful Casaluna weighted blanket on my huge couch from Albany Park and watch old films and TV series. I realize my way to unwind from acting is to watch others act! I’m also a travel addict. Adventures abroad never go out of style and the stories I share with friends and family never expire.
