Dunkin’ Is Making a Major Change to Their Drink Prices

If you’re a frequent Dunkin’ customer, you may have noticed that the price of your regular coffee order will change in a couple weeks. But don’t worry: it’s for the better.

Starting March 5, the breakfast chain will officially remove the upcharge on plant-based milk for all beverages. While consumers would normally pay extra to substitute dairy milk for soy, oat, coconut or almond milk, the cost for a plant-based latte will now be the same as a latte with whole milk.

Dunkin’ is following the lead of other coffee chains like Starbucks, Dutch Bros, Tim Hortons and Scooters, which all removed the upcharge on milk alternatives in the past few months. This follows a March 2024 lawsuit in California claiming that the extra fee for a dairy-free drink was violating the Americans with Disabilities Act for those who are lactose-intolerant.

And nonprofit animal rights organization Mercy for Animals claims to have worked closely with Dunkin’ ahead of the fee removal as they advocated for the change. 

“Mercy For Animals applauds Dunkin’ for this landmark decision,” Jennifer Behr, the nonprofit’s corporate relations manager said in a recent release. “Plant-based milk upcharges create barriers for those who cannot or choose not to consume dairy, making this a win for equity and sustainability.”
