Is Boob Tape an Instant Breast Lift?

What is boob tape?

A favorite fashion accessory of stylists everywhere, boob tape, or breast tape, is a product that offers lift and support without a bra. Personal stylist and host of the podcast Fashion Crimes, Holly Katz, explains that the easiest way to think of breast tape is “duct tape, but specifically for the breast.”

As part of a stylists kit or a night-out hack, boob tape doesn’t just offer lift, but shape.

“We’ve evolved from using what people used to call ‘chicken cutlets,’ which were silicone padding that you’d put in your bra for an instant lift, to now using breast tape,” she explains. “And the main appeal is that you can sculpt and offer support without worrying about how your shoulders or back look. It avoids that digging-in look you can get with a bra.”

How do you use boob tape?

“If you’ve ever been to a professional bra fitting, using boob tape is a lot like that,” Katz says. There are several different ways to apply the tape, but Katz recommends bending over and gathering all your breast tissue together before taping upwards. “That way your breasts are on the inside frame of your body and not pointing out towards your armpit or straight up.”

Once your foundation is built, just add as much tape as you need to feel supported. Larger breasts may opt for more tape or a wider roll for better coverage and lift.

“I think any breast size can get the hang of this as long as they’re okay with watching a few videos and practicing before the night of your event,” Katz notes. “And if your breasts are sensitive, nipple covers are a good idea.”

But that doesn’t mean absolutely anyone can wear boob tape comfortably, though.

“If you have very sensitive skin, I don’t necessarily think that you should be using boob tape, even for just a night out,” Katz says.
