Indian-American actress Supriya Ganesh commands the screen as Dr. Mohan in The Pitt, HBO’s critically acclaimed medical drama that pulls in more than 10 million viewers per episode. Off set, she is all about self-care, beach escapes and hanging with her cat, Rosie.
Character Twist
“One big thing I make sure I do is get out of character every time I wrap. I tend to do some deep breathing exercises in my room, or I just slide down under my weighted blanket for a little bit—anything where I’m decompressing. One thing I recently realized about myself is thatI hold a lot of tension in my body without realizing it.”
Get Physical
“Something I started recently that I would recommend for everyone is physical therapy. I’m pretty much just trying to figure out where I naturally put tension and what I can do in terms of my posture to fix that. It’s crazy how much lighter I feel every time I leave my PT’s office. I sometimes feel like all my stress is stored under my shoulder blades. Massages, PT—all of those things help me stay grounded.”
Testing, Testing
“I took a blood test this year because I didn’t just want to keep taking and doing whatever. I’m a big believer in data and science and making sure I’m not just taking things randomly. It’s so awful to swallow a bunch of pills in the morning, so I want to make sure what I’m having is a mix that will help me. I realized I have a vitamin D and B12 deficiency, so I currently take those in the morning.”
Sleep, Prioritized
“I was not very good about sleep last season! I was still in celebratory mode—the ‘Oh my God, I just booked a really great job,’ mindset. I was going out a lot, and I hung out with the friends that I had just made on set…but this season, I’ve been prioritizing getting to bed early. Sometimes, I’m even in bed by 8. It’s made a world of difference, especially when I sometimes have to wake up at 5 a.m. to make sure I am at the set on time. I had to really prioritize sleep because I’m definitely someone who tries to fit as much as I can into each day. This year, I’ve really learned to pare things back and make sure I’m not overextending myself.”
Focused Diet
“I try to keep track of what I eat because I really think it affects my mood so much. I usually pack my lunches when I am on set so I know what I’m having. I try to focus on things that are high in fiber and protein. I would do this really awful thing last season where I would have a pastry for lunch, and that’s all I’d have! Then I would have this awful sugar crash later in the day. Listen, I still have my pastry for lunch, but I make sure I’m also having a salad, so there’s something to fill me up. Now I don’t have that awful crash later in the day.”
Scheduled Skin Care
“I am a huge fan of double cleansing. I always start with an oil-based cleanser, and then I use a water-based cleanser after it. This is really princessy and everyone makes fun of me for it, but I also have these individual face towels; I’m not the best when it comes to washing my face towel every day—I’m just not. I know that, so I use individual face towels every time I wash my face. They’re biodegradable, so I usually compost them. I’m a huge fan of those as well. I really notice a difference in my skin when I’m consistent with them.”
Pro Shop
“I’m a big believer in going to your dermatologist for skin care, as opposed to going to the store. I think there are so many products out there that don’t really have good ingredients and don’t do the things they say they’re going to do. I’m all about the science—that’s what I really try to focus on. Anything I use is usually derm-recommended so that I know I am getting the best results I can get.”
