Celebrity MUA Allison Kaye Spills Her Best Makeup Tips and Techniques for Mature Skin

Taylor Swift’s head-to-toe Chanel outfit and signature red lip weren’t the only looks from the Kansas City Chiefs’ latest playoff game we’re still discussing. Donna Kelce, mom to Travis and Jason, and mother-in-law to Kylie, showed off her flawless fit alongside Swift and WNBA superstar Caitlin Clark. Kelce’s makeup was, of course, courtesy of celebrity (and Chiefs WAGs go-to) makeup artist, Allison Kaye.

Lucky us, Kaye not only shared the exact products she used for Kelce’s game day glam (more on that below), but she shared her biggest tips and best techniques for perfecting makeup on mature skin.

“Skin prep is everything.”

Above all, a hydrated base is essential for mature skin—makeup or none at all. “Make sure you’re using a moisturizer, hyaluronic acid serum [and] eye cream or serum,” Kaye advises. “This is going to plump out the face and make everything look more hydrated.”

Embrace creamy makeup

Similar to skin-care products, Kaye recommends “hydrating” foundations and concealers, blending both with a brush and embracing “mostly cream products like cream eyeshadow sticks, cream bronzers, liquid and cream blushes.”

Focus on the eyes

“Brighten and color correct the under eye,” advises Kaye because “the eyes are the first signs to show aging.” In addition to eyeshadow sticks, Kaye recommends defining the lash line with eyeliner “to give depth.” “I like to use a gel eyeliner and a little [angled] brush,” she says.

Add in color

“Make sure you’re adding color to the face,” Kaye explains. “I stay away from anything that’s going to end up looking too nude with their skin tone.”

Lush Lips

To round out her mature makeup tips, Kaye notes, “Lips should be looking hydrated with a gloss or a lip oil.”
