No one makes us laugh quite like Chelsea Handler. Tonight, the actress and former Chelsea Lately star will take on her third consecutive Critics’ Choice Awards hosting gig, and is sure to have us clutching our ribs throughout the star-studded award show. As it turns out, though, Handler has been doing some clutching of her own, detailing her painful experience with a confusing shoulder infection this week on Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast.

Chelsea Handler Warns Against PRP Injections After Nasty Shoulder Injury

After sitting down in one of Cooper’s hot pink lawn chairs and doing a chaotic bit of self-promo, Cooper couldn’t help but point out one of the items Handler brought with her to set. “Are those pills?” she asked half-jokingly, but as it turns out, they weren’t just pills; they were prescription Vicodin for Handler’s rather severe shoulder infection. “I have a fever right now, just so you know,” she said a little too calmly before getting into exactly what brought her to needing the pills in the first place. “I’m in agony; I have a shoulder infection,” the comedian began.

“They wanted me to have surgery on it today, but I had too much press, including you,” Handler admitted, explaining that she didn’t want to blow off Alex for their podcast date. “I do have to take a Vicodin, and I thought ‘What better place?’” Handler joked. As it turned out, to try and alleviate symptoms until she can have surgery, Handler got a PRP injection in her shoulder (to which she warns listeners, “Don’t ever f****ing do that”) and has since experienced “chills and sweats” that she assumed were related to perimenopause. After the pain in her shoulder got to be “excruciating,” and she couldn’t lift it above her head, she went back to the doctor only to find out she had an infection from the PRP injection. “I got estrogen and progesterone done only to find out it’s a f****ing infection!” she exclaimed. “I’m probably not even in perimenopause,” she added before quickly backtracking, “No, I probably am.” Oh, Chelsea.
