Chrissy Teigen Had a Hairline Lowering Procedure After Experiencing Postpartum Hair Loss

Chrissy Teigen casually opened up about the most recent cosmetic procedure she’s received. A few days after appearing on Instagram Live with bandages on her face, the 39-year-old took to her Instagram story to share that she’s currently healing from a hairline-lowering surgery.

“Hi friends! At [sic] lot of you have been wondering about my hospital pic which is very understandable as I gave no explanation lol,” she captioned a May 23 photo showing the stitches along her hairline, according to People. “I had a hairline lowering procedure.”

Teigen continued, explaining that she experienced hair thinning after having children. “Lost a lot in the front from babies and it’s just very thin up there,” she said. “When you see it on a carpet, it’s ALWAYS extensions.” The model and cookbook author shares four children with husband John Legend: 9-year-old Luna, 7-year-old Miles, 2-year-old Esti and 1-year-old Wren.

Postpartum hair loss is pretty common, and can happen as a result of stress on the body and falling estrogen levels after giving birth. New York dermatologist Dhaval G. Bhanusali, MD told NewBeauty in a previous story that new moms can notice hair loss and thinning as early as six weeks postpartum. The shedding itself can last anywhere between six to 12 months. People who experience hair thinning can often minimize the effects by taking hair growth supplements, adding more protein-rich foods to their diet or using specialized hair products like serums, shampoos and conditioners that promote density. But of course, in-office procedures like PRP injections and forehead reduction surgery are also options.

This isn’t Teigen’s first time being open about undergoing cosmetic surgery. In 2021, she talked about getting buccal fat removal—which is just the removal of the fat between your cheekbones and jaw bones—and an eyebrow transplant. Long before that she got breast implants, though she revealed in 2020 that she was getting them removed.

Teigen finished her Instagram story confession saying there’s more details about her hairline surgery to come later. “I’ll share more later if you’re interested in the journey because it really is a journey lol.”
