Costco and Walmart Cucumbers Recalled Due to Salmonella

There’s an active recall on cucumbers distributed to at least 26 states and five Canadian provinces. This is due to potential Salmonella contamination. At least 68 people have reported illnesses and 18 have been hospitalized as of November 26, 2024.

The American cucumbers were sold between October 12 and November 26, 2024, by multiple retailers, including Costco, Walmart and Wegmans. The states directly affected are Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin as well as the Canadian provinces of Alberta, British Columbia, Calgary, Saskatchewan and Ontario. It’s possible that retailers in other states and provinces sold the impacted cucumbers.

According to the Food and Drug Administration, multiple illnesses have been reported associated with the cucumbers. The recalled cucumbers likely have an individual PLU sticker #4062 with the “SunFed” logo on them, but contact your place of purchase if you’re unsure if your cucumbers are included. If you have any cucumbers in your refrigerator purchased between October 12 and November 26 that match the recall information, dispose of them immediately and sanitize any surfaces that they came in contact with.

Salmonella infection (also known as salmonellosis) can cause symptoms including diarrhea, fever, stomach cramps, headaches, nausea, vomiting and loss of appetite. Symptoms can be more severe for those age 65 or older, immunocompromised individuals or for young children. If you are experiencing any of these signs after eating the impacted cucumbers, contact your health care provider as soon as possible.
