Emma Roberts Says Bye-Bye to Blonde With ‘Sunset Red’ Hair Transformation

From We’re the Millers to Scream Queens and American Horror Story, in many of our collective memories, Emma Roberts is famously a blonde. The 33-year-old’s acting portfolio is extensive, and for many of her roles, her bouncy blonde strands are a cornerstone. This week, though, Roberts took a trip to the darker side, debuting a “sunset red” hair transformation in anticipation of an upcoming project.

Debuted via Instagram this week, Roberts is officially a redhead thanks to a masterful transformation done by Wella Global Ambassador and celebrity hairstylist Nikki Lee and co-owner of Nine Zero One Salon, Riawna Capri. Together, the two hair experts combined blended color and high-quality extensions to create a dimensional, warm copper style on Roberts.

“I created this shade for Emma as she needed to go red for an upcoming role,” Lee explains. “The inspiration came from the last time we took her red in 2017, but this time, we kept her more on the copper side. This multi-reflective tone is perfect on Emma in so many ways—it makes her eyes pop and is stunning on her skin tone. I used Wella Illumina on her base because it’s reflective and natural looking and then pulled Wella Color Touch through her mid-lengths and ends to balance the tone throughout, giving it richness and lots of shine. Riawna and I added in Great Lengths hair extensions for volume and length, and Riawna cut her ends with wispy layers so her hair felt light and free. We love this look on Emma—it’s giving a very modern take on Julia Roberts hair in the 90’s.”
