Garcelle Beauvais Shares Her Post-Emmy Plan: ‘Get Out of the Dress and Grab a Burger’

At this year’s 77th Emmy Awards, the spotlight wasn’t just on Hollywood’s brightest stars and their work—it was also on the power of thriving at every stage of life. During the Emmys Governors Gala, GSK’s THRIVE@50+ campaign honored celebrated actors over 50, highlighting the journeys, resilience and wisdom that brought them to this moment.

Beyond the glitz and glamour, the campaign delivered an empowering message: Staying proactive about your health is just as important as owning your age. The initiative raises critical awareness around shingles, a condition that can impact life’s most meaningful moments. The startling stats: An estimated 99 percent of adults over 50 already carry the virus that causes shingles, even if they never develop the condition.

Through powerful storytelling, real-life experiences and celebrity activations, the campaign encourages adults 50+ to embrace their age boldly—and take steps to protect their health, so they can continue to thrive, shine and steal the show.

As actress and producer Garcelle Beauvais told us, joining the project was a “no-brainer” for her. “The messaging is right on— not only for me, but for my family and for my friends over 50,” she says. “Being over 50, you are at risk for shingles, and I just think that it’s a great campaign. It’s about living your best life, but at the same time, helping you understand your risk of shingles.”

What is “thriving” to you? 

“It means living your best life—to wake up in the morning, and are excited about what’s ahead for the day. I think it’s all about we’re living longer, we need more joy in our lives. Any time you can thrive and help other people feel good, why wouldn’t you?” 

And there is some “feel-good” tonight with the Emmy Awards. What are you most excited about?

“I am excited to see all of the glamour, all the fashion, run into some friends. And really just a great night of celebrating television.”

Tell me about the glam. What are some of your glam day-of tips when you are doing a big show like this? 

“Definitely hydrate, but don’t hydrate too much! Once you put on the dress, you may not be able to go to the bathroom, like me today. It’s about getting some rest, it’s about talking to my glam team and deciding what the look is and what the inspiration is all about.”

And when the show is over, what are you doing? 

“Get out of the dress, grab a burger and a glass of champagne!”
