Jennifer’s Journey

From XXL to Fit and Fabulous

I was a dancer growing up – tap, jazz, ballet, and then high school musicals. I also played soccer year-round. With all that activity, I ate whatever I wanted. But as I got older, my eating habits didn’t change, and I found myself indulging in fast food and unhealthy snacks.

A Wake-Up Call

I got married in 2004 in a size 16 wedding dress. A few months later, I wore a size 18 dress to my sister-in-law’s wedding. When I went shopping that December and had to buy an XXL shirt, I realized that I was getting bigger and bigger. That’s when I knew I had to explore weight-loss options.

An Online Resolution

I looked into Weight Watchers meetings, but I’m not someone who likes to sit with strangers. Still, I visited WeightWatchers.com – that’s when I learned about Weight Watchers Online. I also read the Success Stories and checked out the message boards.

Dive Right In!

I paid in advance for a three-month subscription to Weight Watchers Online, knowing that if I spent the money, I’d have to stick with it for at least that long. Once I commit to something, I give it my all, and it was no different with the POINTS Weight-Loss System. I picked up a permanent marker and labeled everything in the kitchen with its POINTS value per serving. Then I combed WeightWatchers.com to find healthier alternatives for my favorite foods. Community users on the message boards had great ideas!

Am I Really Hungry?

I lost weight my first two weeks following the plan, which was very motivating! But we still had some unhealthy foods in the house, and when my husband ate something tempting it was hard for me to say no – even if I wasn’t hungry. The key was reminding myself of the success I’d already attained. I’d think, “I’ve come this far and lost this weight – these cookies aren’t worth it.”

Walk With Me

My husband and I are always taking the farthest parking spot or using the stairs to get exercise into our days. And at work, I walk with co-workers during lunch (inside if it’s raining!).

Now I’m a Believer

I’d never actively tried to lose weight, so I admit that I was skeptical at first. In fact, for a few months I didn’t tell anyone aside from my husband that I had subscribed to Weight Watchers Online, I was afraid I’d fail. But soon co-workers started noticing my new figure and they became a great source of encouragement. They bring fruit for me whenever we have office parties, and they’ve started asking me for tips!

Jennifer’s Tips:

  • I’m a really bad grazer at parties, so I try to linger in a no-food room and talk to people (or plant myself near the vegetable section).
  • Favorite snacks: low-fat yogurt and cherry tomatoes – I can eat them by the pint!
  • Eating small meals throughout the day helps me avoid getting super-hungry and binging.
  • Give all kinds of foods a try. I used to hate strawberries when I was younger, but I recently found that now I love them!
  • For meat-eaters, try 94-percent fat-free Canadian bacon.
  • Don’t lose weight to please others or prove something to someone else; do it for you. That’s the only way it will work.

Conclusion

Jennifer’s journey is a testament to the power of determination and the effectiveness of the Weight Watchers program. With the support of her husband and online community, she was able to lose 66.4 pounds and achieve a healthier lifestyle.
