With January in full swing, “new year, new me” may be the motto you’re seeing everywhere—and you may be saying it yourself. But in a recent episode of her new podcast Not Gonna Lie, Kylie Kelce has an important message on self-love.
Alongside podcaster and author Drew Afualo, who spreads body positive messaging across social media platforms, Kelce opens up about the challenges she’s had to face on her journey to loving herself and her body.
Kelce, who is 5 feet 11 inches tall, shares that while she now has confidence surrounding her height, she once would let words like “big” and “huge” affect her, especially through high school where she was “ruthlessly bullied.”
“There was a period of time where I was like, ‘Don’t call me big.’ I would be like, ‘I’m not big, I’m tall,’” she shares. “There was this whole idea that I had to switch the narrative of. Not allowing those words to hold the weight that they expected them to hold with me.”
Kelce notes that people “take issue” with her size because women are expected to be “dainty,” “fragile” and “delicate,” so when someone notices her height, it can become a point of discussion.
“You’re gonna look at me and be like, ‘you’re huge,’” she says. “Yeah. I f*****g am. Yes, I’m huge. Yeah, I’m big.”
It’s so important to remember how your words can impact others. Even with the best of intentions, comments on someone’s body, whether it be about their height, weight or other physical features, are never warranted. Instead of remarking on someone’s body, compliment their personality or ask how they’re doing—you never know how long it’s been since someone’s been asked a simple “How are you?” and they may need to hear it more than you know.
Overall, Kelce is declaring that “giving a f***” is officially “out” for 2025: “It’s not the vibe, guys. If something doesn’t make you better or enrich your life, or enrich the life of others, [it] gots to go.” We’re all for this mentality, specifically after receiving unjustified criticism; remember that any comments you receive say more about that person than you.
