Survey Says: Men Outspend Women on Aesthetic Treatments

A Growing Trend in the Beauty Industry

It’s no secret that more and more men are openly talking about aesthetic treatments. And a new survey shows the amount spent is pretty significant.

Men Outspend Women on Aesthetic Treatments

According to new data from Guidepoint Qsight, men spent an average of eight percent more at medspas and plastic surgery clinics per visit than women last year—to the average tune of $1,678 on nonsurgical aesthetic treatments and products, compared to $1,357 for women.

On a per-visit basis, men spent an average of $732, while women spent $524.

What’s Driving the Trend?

“I am definitely seeing more men come in now than when I first started practicing,” says Phoenix, AZ dermatologist Dr. Karan Lal. “Mostly, men come in and tell me they want to look less mad. For that, the best treatment is a neuromodulator.”

Dr. Lal is also seeing a lot of male patients with sun-damage in his desert-located office. “For that, we use BBL,” he says. “Lastly, I have a lot of male patients coming in for sunken temples, which we treat with filler.”

Annual Spending on Aesthetic Treatments

What’s more, the data found that, over the past few years, annual per-patient spending has grown faster among men than women. Since 2017, per-patient spending among men has increased by an average of seven percent per year. Per-patient spending among women has grown by an average of three percent per year.

Skin Care and Weight-Loss Treatments

As expected, skin care has also seen a surge. On average, men spent $142 per visit on professional-grade skin-care products, up from $133 in 2022 and $120 in 2021. Women spent around $150 per visit on professional-grade skin-care products in 2023.

Weight-loss treatments are also proving popular with men. In the 2024 year-to-date, they have accounted for 17 percent of nonsurgical aesthetics spending by men, up from 13 percent in 2023 and five percent in 2022. This increase has been largely driven by the ongoing surge in semaglutide prescriptions.

Conclusion

The survey results suggest that men are increasingly seeking aesthetic treatments to improve their appearance and overall well-being. As the trend continues to grow, it’s likely that we’ll see even more men seeking out these treatments in the future.
