If you’re enjoying the newest season of Queer Eye, then you’re definitely loving the show’s newest addition: interior designer Jeremiah Brent. And while you may know him from his creative work, Brent is a family man first, which means simple, parent-friendly choices in his routine are a must.

So it only makes sense for him to team up with Almond Breeze to highlight the brand’s shelf-stable almond milk varieties as go-to pantry staples. And through their collaboration, the brand is hosting a sweepstakes where one lucky winner will receive a party makeover with Brent himself now through February 25. You can enter now for a chance to win!

With this partnership, we were given the opportunity to chat with Brent himself about Queer Eye, his favorite quick meals and his philosophy on eating well, among other topics. Learn more about Brent below.

Did you have any favorite snacks, foods or drinks that you swore by while filming Queer Eye?

I’m not a huge snacker, believe it or not. I have a sweet tooth, which is not a surprise to most people. I’m a real sucker for Swedish Fish or Sour Patch Kids. But I always make sure that I’ve got a really great lunch or dinner planned, like a great piece of fish and a salad. And I always have coffee—probably too many, but those are the necessities for me right now.

Could you talk about your morning routine and how you typically start your days?

I’m super ritualistic and ceremonial with everything I do. The mornings are my time in particular before I’m a dad or a husband or anybody else, so it’s pretty rigid. I get up really early, usually around 4:30. I make a fire because it’s freezing in New York right now. Then I make a cup of coffee with a little bit of almond milk—not a shameless plug, just the truth. I pound through about a pot of coffee on my own, and I work and I write and I meditate. I make a list of what I want to accomplish throughout the day, and I light candles, put music on and then go upstairs and wake up my kids. It’s kind of the “me time” that I need every day to reconnect, set my intentions for the day and just really give myself the marching order I need.

Why partner with Almond Breeze?

Almond Breeze is a huge part of my life. It’s always been something that I’ve loved before being a parent, and as a parent, it’s super dependable. It was an easy fit for me because I use it all the time; I used it this morning with my daughter in her cereal. I love the company, I love what it stands for, so it was an easy marriage.

What are some easy dinners that you love that are healthy yet comforting to you?

I cook a lot. I love to cook for our kids, so I make a lot of slow-cooker recipes. I make an amazing, amazing beef bourguignon for the family, which sounds really complicated and bougie, but it’s really easy—it’s basically just beef stew. Bolognese is a big one for the kids, a simple weeknight bolognese I try to cook at least three days a week. I’m always home for dinner with the kids because it’s the one time we all come together to connect and hear about the day. I try to protect it as much as I can.

In an episode of Queer Eye, you assign each of your costars a word: “joy,” “passion,” “love”… but what’s your word? What word would you assign yourself right now that you feel embodies you?

Forgiveness. I think that’s my one superpower. I’ve been through a lot, a tough childhood. I’ve gone through a lot, and even now with the current administration and what a lot of marginalized communities like the queer community are navigating, I think the only way that we can move forward is forgiving people for what they don’t know, getting out there, advocating for ourselves and informing people and sharing our stories. That’s what’s so special about Queer Eye: it’s really giving a voice to a real kaleidoscope of experiences, people and the things that they’re going through. You can learn a lot in your living room about somebody or a story that you’d have never seen or been around. So forgiveness would be my word.

What does “eating well” mean to you?

I think it’s knowing what you’re eating and where it comes from. I think really being conscious of what you’re eating and where it’s coming from and what’s in it is more important than ever, and especially with children, I feel like I’m even more hyper-conscious of it now. It’s supporting brands that have the same mission you do around health and the planet.
