Derek Hough Shares His “Perfect” Meal for Busy Days

As one of the most famous dancers in America, if not the world, Derek Hough may have a demanding schedule, but he finds a way to prioritize his fitness and health. As a judge on ABC’s hit show “Dancing with the Stars” and a choreographer extraordinaire, Hough doesn’t have a moment to spare – and yet, he still manages to prep and fuel his body for his on-stage performances.

I’ll start off my day with a protein shake and then add in some blueberries and other goodies to give me a boost of nutrients and energy. I also make sure to take some sea moss to help stay hydrated. And, of course, I love a packed smoothie to set me up for the day.

I am a simple person, and so, I stick to what I like – nuts and protein bars. Since trying them, I’ve become totally obsessed with macadamia nuts – they’re so delicious! I also keep some almonds on hand, as they make a great snack.

I must say, a Mason jar salad with whole grains, veggies, and a protein source such as chicken or tuna is a fantastic combo. It’s easy to prepare, pre-made, and can be taken out anywhere.

I think it’s no surprise that I partnered with StarKist for their new campaign. First and foremost, their products were so convenient for my lifestyle which is very busy, either choreographing for my own projects or traveling back and forth between shows.
